**Glutamine** is an investigational metabolic resuscitation intervention developed by the University of Missouri-Kansas City for traumatic hemorrhagic shock. The clinical preparation used L-glutamine as a 3% solution in Ringer's lactate and was evaluated against standard resuscitation fluid in the completed ClinicalTrials.gov study NCT01239680. Glutamine is intended to serve as a metabolic substrate and precursor for adenosine triphosphate synthesis, supporting recovery of hepatic cellular energy stores and reducing mitochondrial injury and apoptosis after hemorrhagic shock.
