A nutritional supplement combination consisting of the dipeptide L-alanyl-L-glutamine and fish oil rich in omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, specifically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Investigated by Columbia University Medical Center in the GlutFish-HF trial (NCT01534663), this intervention targets skeletal muscle dysfunction, exercise intolerance, and metabolic abnormalities in patients with chronic stable heart failure. The mechanism of action involves addressing muscle protein balance, reducing systemic inflammation, and modulating oxidative metabolism. Clinical findings indicated that while the supplementation did not significantly improve exercise performance or muscle strength, it was associated with increased lean body mass and improved quality of life in heart failure patients.
