Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glutamine popsicles are an investigational nutritional supplement formulation consisting of L-glutamine delivered in a frozen form. Developed by the University of Wisconsin, Madison, this intervention is specifically aimed at the prevention and management of oral mucositis in adult and pediatric patients undergoing bone marrow transplantation (BMT) or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). L-glutamine is a conditionally essential amino acid that acts as a primary fuel source for rapidly dividing cells, such as those in the gastrointestinal and oral mucosa. By providing both topical contact and systemic absorption, the popsicle formulation helps maintain mucosal integrity, supports cellular repair, and potentially reduces the severity and duration of chemotherapy-induced mucosal injury.
