Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glutaraldehyde-modified phleum pratense pollen allergen extract, developed by Inmunotek S.L. and marketed under the brand name Clustoid, is an allergoid used for allergen immunotherapy (AIT). The extract is derived from Timothy grass (*Phleum pratense*) pollen and chemically modified with glutaraldehyde to induce polymerization. This modification reduces the allergen's IgE-binding capacity, thereby decreasing the risk of IgE-mediated systemic allergic reactions during administration, while preserving the T-cell epitopes necessary for therapeutic efficacy. The drug works by inducing immunological tolerance, shifting the immune response from a Th2-dominated profile to a Th1 and regulatory T-cell (Treg) response, and stimulating the production of allergen-specific IgG4 blocking antibodies. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, and controlled mild-to-moderate allergic asthma in patients with demonstrated IgE-mediated sensitivity to Timothy grass pollen.
