Overview
Glutathione disodium is a small molecule antioxidant drug consisting of the disodium salt of reduced glutathione (GSH). It is primarily investigated for its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species (ROS), thereby reducing oxidative stress and preventing ischemia-reperfusion injury in patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The drug was evaluated in the Phase 2 GSH 2014 Trial, sponsored by University Hospital Policlinico Umberto I in Italy, where it was administered intravenously to protect cardiac and renal tissues. It is manufactured by Biomedica Foscama Group and remains an investigational compound in the context of acute myocardial infarction.
