Glutazumab is a novel long-acting fusion protein that combines a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) derivative with a humanized GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) monoclonal antibody via a peptide linker. It acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist and exerts anti-diabetic effects by specifically binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptor. Preclinical studies demonstrated that glutazumab lowers blood glucose levels, improves β-cell function, and ameliorates dyslipidemia in animal models of type 2 diabetes. Its unique structure allows for prolonged activity compared to other GLP-1 analogs. Glutazumab has shown favorable safety profiles in early clinical trials compared to dulaglutide. The drug is being investigated primarily for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
