Glutim-D

Glutim-D is a topical ophthalmic combination of dorzolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, and timolol, a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist. Developed and marketed by Optho Pharma, it is indicated for the reduction of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to beta-blockers alone. Dorzolamide reduces IOP by inhibiting carbonic anhydrase II in the ciliary processes of the eye, which decreases bicarbonate ion secretion and subsequently reduces aqueous humor secretion. Timolol lowers IOP by blocking beta-adrenergic receptors in the ciliary body, thereby reducing the production of aqueous humor through a complementary pathway. Together, the co-formulation provides a synergistic reduction in intraocular pressure to prevent progressive optic nerve damage and preserve vision.
