Overview

GLX7013114 is a novel, highly selective small molecule inhibitor of NADPH oxidase 4 (NOX4). It has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models for the treatment of early pathological events in diabetic retinopathy. Topical administration as eye drops protected retinal neurons and ganglion cell function, reduced oxidative stress, neurodegeneration, and neuroinflammation, and lowered levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and vascular endothelial growth factor in diabetic retina. The compound also protected pancreatic islet cells from cytokine- and high glucose-induced cell death in vitro. Developed by Glucox Biotech, GLX7013114 shows promise as a therapeutic candidate for early-stage diabetic retinopathy and potentially other diabetes-related complications[1][2][3][5][7].
