Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GLY-220 is a small molecule drug candidate currently in preclinical development by Glycadia Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of diabetic macrovascular disease and Alzheimer's disease. The compound functions as a glycation inhibitor, specifically targeting the nonenzymatic glycation of proteins. This biochemical process is significantly accelerated in diabetic patients due to chronic hyperglycemia, resulting in the accumulation of glucose-modified proteins and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) that cause vascular damage and contribute to the neurodegenerative pathology observed in Alzheimer's disease. By inhibiting this process, GLY-220 aims to mitigate the progression of diabetic complications and cognitive decline.
