GLY-230

GLY-230 is a first-in-class, orally active small molecule glycation inhibitor developed for the treatment of diabetic complications such as diabetic nephropathy and retinopathy. Its mechanism of action involves inhibiting nonenzymatic glycation, specifically by preventing the modification of albumin by Amadori glucose adducts. In clinical studies, GLY-230 has been shown to lower glycated albumin levels without affecting blood glucose (HbA1c) and to reduce urinary albumin excretion in patients with preexisting microalbuminuria. The drug was originally developed by Exocell and later Glycadia. Although it entered early-phase clinical trials for diabetic nephropathy and was considered for Alzheimer's disease, no further development has been reported[1][2][4][5].
