Overview

Gly-9 is a glycoside compound investigated for its antiprion activity. It functions by inhibiting the formation of abnormal prion proteins in prion-infected cells. Its mechanism involves reducing intracellular prion protein levels and modulating gene expression, specifically downregulating interferon-stimulated genes and upregulating the phosphodiesterase 4D-interacting protein gene. The latter is implicated in altering the trafficking of prion protein-containing structures, thereby affecting prion protein levels. The compound has shown efficacy in prion-infected cells and animals, although its in vivo efficacy was noted as limited.
