Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GlycaCare-II is a proprietary herbal formulation designed as a dietary supplement for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and prediabetes. It contains standardized extracts from several medicinal plants, including Cinnamomum cassia, Momordica charantia (bitter melon), Pterocarpus marsupium, Gymnema sylvestre, Salacia reticulata, Eugenia jambolana, and piperine from Piper nigrum as a bioavailability enhancer. The formulation has demonstrated efficacy comparable to metformin in reducing glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), fasting blood sugar (FBS), and postprandial blood sugar (PBS) in both newly diagnosed diabetic and prediabetic patients over 120 days of treatment. No significant adverse events were reported during clinical trials[1][2][4]. The mechanisms of action are believed to involve enhancement of insulin sensitivity, stimulation of insulin secretion, inhibition of intestinal glucose absorption, modulation of carbohydrate metabolism enzymes, upregulation of insulin signaling pathways such as AMPKα1 and GLUT4 expression (notably via bitter melon components), and improved pancreatic beta-cell function[4].
