Overview

Glycated chitosan is a semi-synthetic polysaccharide derivative produced by the Maillard reaction between chitosan and galactose. It functions as a potent immunological adjuvant designed to stimulate a systemic anti-tumor immune response. In clinical applications, particularly within the Laser-Assisted Immunotherapy (LIT) system, glycated chitosan is administered intratumorally following local tumor ablation (e.g., via laser-induced photothermal therapy). The ablation process releases tumor-associated antigens, while the glycated chitosan acts as a danger signal to activate antigen-presenting cells (APCs), such as dendritic cells. This combined approach aims to induce an "in situ" vaccination effect, promoting the activation of tumor-specific T-cells that can target both the treated primary tumor and distant metastatic lesions (the abscopal effect).
