Overview

Glycerol + fructose + sodium chloride is a hyperosmotic dehydrating agent developed by Jiangsu Yayao Biotech for the treatment of increased intracranial pressure and cerebral edema associated with various neurological conditions. The combination works by increasing plasma osmotic pressure, which creates an osmotic gradient that draws water from the interstitial space of the brain into the intravascular compartment, thereby reducing brain volume and intracranial pressure. Glycerol provides the primary osmotic effect, while fructose serves as an energy source and helps prevent the rapid metabolism of glycerol, extending its duration of action. Sodium chloride is included to maintain electrolyte balance. It is indicated for conditions such as cerebral infarction, intracerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, head trauma, brain tumors, and meningitis, as well as for reducing intraocular pressure.
