Glycerosaline

Glycerosaline, also known as glycerinated saline, is a pharmaceutical solution typically composed of a mixture of glycerin (glycerol) and physiological saline (sodium chloride in water). In the field of clinical dermatology and allergy research, it is primarily utilized as a negative control in diagnostic procedures such as the Human Repeat Insult Patch Test (HRIPT). Its role is to provide a baseline for non-irritancy, allowing investigators to distinguish between the skin's reaction to an experimental material—such as the SILURCLOUD Fibrous Collagen Matrix—and the reaction to the patching process or the vehicle itself. While glycerin is known for its emollient and humectant properties and saline is an isotonic electrolyte solution, the combination is considered pharmacologically inert in the context of skin sensitization testing.
