Glycerosteril

**Glycerosteril** is a proprietary hyperosmolar intravenous infusion solution containing glycerol, glucose, and sodium chloride. Its principal pharmacologic effect is glycerol-mediated osmotic diuresis: intravenous administration raises plasma osmolality and establishes an osmotic gradient that shifts water from edematous brain tissue into the intravascular space, thereby reducing cerebral edema. Glycerosteril 10% is marketed by Fresenius Kabi as a central intravenous infusion for treatment of cerebral edema. It has also been evaluated as a viscous submucosal lifting solution during endoscopic resection of colonic polyps, where it may be combined separately with indigo carmine and adrenaline.
