Glycitin is a naturally occurring soy isoflavone glycoside found in soybeans and soy-derived products such as tofu, soymilk, and soy sauce. As a phytoestrogen and selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), glycitin undergoes hydrolysis in the digestive tract by intestinal beta-glucosidases to form its active aglycone, glycitein, which binds to and activates estrogen receptors (with a preference for ER-beta). Glycitin has been shown to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-osteoporosis, and anti-aging properties. In research models, it promotes osteoblast differentiation and dermal fibroblast proliferation, potentially through the regulation of the TGF-beta and AKT signaling pathways. It is widely studied for its potential therapeutic benefits in menopausal symptom management, osteoporosis prevention, cardiovascular health, and lipid metabolism.
