GlycoAla is a topical photodynamic skin care treatment that utilizes a proprietary glycosphere (liposomal) delivery system to encapsulate 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA). It is primarily indicated for the aesthetic improvement of sun-damaged skin, fine lines, uneven skin tone, and acne-prone skin. Upon topical application, the 5-ALA is absorbed into the skin and metabolized into protoporphyrin IX (PpIX), a potent photosensitizing agent. When activated by specific wavelengths of light (such as LED or IPL), PpIX triggers a photodynamic reaction that generates reactive oxygen species, leading to selective cellular rejuvenation and the targeting of damaged skin structures. The glycosphere technology is designed to enhance the stability and penetration of 5-ALA while minimizing the irritation and downtime typically associated with high-concentration photodynamic therapy (PDT) agents.
