glycopyrronium

Glycopyrronium is a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA) bronchodilator used for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It functions by blocking M3 muscarinic receptors in the airway smooth muscle, which prevents acetylcholine-induced bronchoconstriction and results in sustained bronchodilation. The drug was the subject of the LAB-Card trial (NCT02872090), a Phase 4 study sponsored by the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Besançon, which investigated its effects on cardiac autonomic nervous system control in patients with mild COPD. The study concluded that glycopyrronium does not have deleterious effects on autonomic cardiovascular regulation. It is typically administered via inhalation using a dry powder inhaler.
