Overview
Glycopyrronium bromide is a synthetic quaternary ammonium compound that acts as a competitive muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. In the context of primary axillary hyperhidrosis, it is formulated as a 1% cream (Axhidrox) for topical application. By blocking the muscarinic receptors on eccrine sweat glands, it inhibits the stimulation of sweat production by acetylcholine. Developed by Dr. August Wolff GmbH & Co. KG, this topical formulation provides a localized treatment option with reduced systemic anticholinergic side effects compared to oral administration. It is specifically indicated for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis in adults and adolescents.
