Overview

Glycyl-L-alpha-amino-epsilon-pimelyl-D-alanine is a synthetic tripeptide composed of glycine, L-alpha-amino-epsilon-pimelic acid, and D-alanine. It is an experimental small molecule that mimics a fragment of the natural peptidoglycan precursor found in bacterial cell walls. This compound has been used primarily as a biochemical tool to study the substrate specificity and mechanism of penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), particularly D-Ala-D-Ala carboxypeptidases involved in bacterial cell wall biosynthesis. It is not approved for clinical use and has no known therapeutic indications[1][2][3][4]. Its main application is in structural biology studies to elucidate enzyme-substrate interactions relevant to antibiotic action and resistance.
