Glycylglutamine is a dipeptide composed of glycine and L-glutamine. It is used as an ingredient in amino acid solutions for parenteral nutrition due to its higher solubility and thermostability compared to free glutamine. After intravenous administration, it is rapidly hydrolyzed into glycine and glutamine in the body[2][6]. Glycylglutamine also acts as a biologically active neuropeptide derived from β-endorphin(1-31), with evidence suggesting it can attenuate morphine-induced conditioned place preference, tolerance, dependence, withdrawal symptoms, cardiovascular depression, and respiratory depression without affecting opioid analgesia[5][8]. Its precise receptor mechanism remains unidentified but does not appear to involve opioid or glycine receptors[8].
