Overview
Glycyrrhiza protein is a proteinaceous extract derived from the *Glycyrrhiza* (licorice) plant. In preclinical research, it has been utilized both as a standalone agent and as a structural component in self-assembled nanoparticles (such as glycyrrhiza protein-paeoniflorin nanoparticles) for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to the modulation of glycerophospholipid metabolism and the downregulation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR-NLRP3 signaling pathway. This leads to a reduction in synovial inflammation and the inhibition of pyroptosis-related factors like Caspase-1 and Gasdermin D.
