Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glycyrrhizae Decoction for Purging Stomach-Fire (GDPSF), also known as Gancao Xiexin Tang, is an ancient traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula. It is a multi-herb decoction composed of seven herbs: Glycyrrhiza uralensis (licorice root), Scutellaria baicalensis, Pinellia ternate, Coptis chinensis, Zingiber officinale, Panax ginseng, and Jujube. GDPSF is a multi-component mixture with no single known discrete biological target, consistent with TCM polypharmacology. It has historically been used to treat conditions involving oral ulcers and inflammatory syndromes. The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan College of TCM has evaluated GDPSF as an investigational TCM formula for recurrent oral ulcers in adults with HIV infection or AIDS who meet TCM syndrome criteria for dampness-heat of the spleen and stomach. It has also been clinically investigated for the treatment of Behçet's disease, an autoimmune disorder characterized by recurrent oral ulcers.
