glymidine

Glymidine is a sulfonamide antidiabetic drug of the sulfapyrimidine class, also known as glycodiazine. Structurally related to sulfonylureas, it acts as an oral hypoglycemic agent for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glymidine lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and increasing peripheral tissue sensitivity to insulin. Its mechanism involves binding to ATP-sensitive potassium channel receptor on pancreatic beta cells, leading to membrane depolarization and subsequent calcium influx that triggers insulin secretion.
