Overview

**Glyminox** is an investigational vaginal microbicide and spermicide formulated as the 1.0% **SAVVY** gel. It is an equimolar amphoteric-surfactant mixture of myristamine oxide and cetyl betaine that nonspecifically disrupts lipid membranes, impairing sperm motility and capacitation and providing in-vitro activity against enveloped viruses and other sexually transmitted pathogens. Biosyn developed glyminox for on-demand vaginal contraception and prevention of sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Phase 3 HIV-prevention trials in Ghana and Nigeria did not demonstrate a reduction in HIV incidence, and the program is inactive.
