Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Glypure GL is a high-purity, cosmetic-grade 70% solution of glycolic acid, the smallest alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). It is primarily utilized in dermatological and personal care products for its potent keratolytic and exfoliating properties. The mechanism of action involves the reduction of calcium ion concentration in the stratum corneum and the acidification of the intercellular space, which disrupts the ionic bonds maintaining corneocyte adhesion. This promotes desquamation, leading to increased cell turnover, improved skin texture, and the reduction of hyperpigmentation and acne lesions. Developed by Chemours, Glypure GL is a standard ingredient in chemical peels and anti-aging formulations due to its ability to penetrate the skin effectively and stimulate the production of collagen and glycosaminoglycans in the dermis.
