GM-CSF + etoposide is a combination therapy consisting of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and the chemotherapeutic agent etoposide. GM-CSF is a cytokine that stimulates the production and function of granulocytes and macrophages from hematopoietic precursor cells, enhancing immune responses and supporting bone marrow recovery after cytotoxic chemotherapy. Etoposide is a small molecule topoisomerase II inhibitor that induces DNA strand breaks, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cancer cells. The combination has been investigated primarily to reduce myelosuppression associated with high-dose or dose-intensified chemotherapy regimens by promoting faster recovery of neutrophils and other myeloid cells, potentially allowing for higher or more frequent dosing of cytotoxic agents[1][5][6]. This regimen has been studied in various malignancies including small-cell lung cancer, multiple myeloma, and other advanced cancers.
