This is a combination immunotherapy regimen consisting of three recombinant cytokines: - Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), which stimulates the production and activation of dendritic cells and macrophages. - Interferon alpha (IFN-α), which has multiple immunomodulatory effects including enhancing antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity and direct anti-proliferative activity on tumor cells. - Interleukin 2 (IL-2), which promotes proliferation and activation of T lymphocytes, especially cytotoxic T-cells and natural killer cells. The combination is designed to stimulate both innate and adaptive immune responses against cancer. It has been investigated primarily as an adjuvant or palliative therapy in high-risk or metastatic cancers such as melanoma and renal cell carcinoma. The rationale is that these cytokines act synergistically to enhance antitumor immunity by activating different arms of the immune system—from antigen-presenting dendritic cells to effector T lymphocytes[1][2][6][7][8].
