This vaccine is a type of immunotherapy specifically designed for patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). It involves taking the patient's own tumor cells, genetically modifying them to produce granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and then irradiating them to render them harmless. The GM-CSF gene transduction enhances the immune response by stimulating antigen-presenting cells, which in turn help the body recognize and attack cancer cells. The vaccine is administered through intradermal and subcutaneous injections to induce a strong immune response against the tumor cells.
