The GM-CSF-secreting autologous breast cancer vaccine is a personalized therapeutic cancer vaccine created from a patient's own (autologous) breast tumor cells. These cells are harvested from the patient and genetically modified ex vivo using a replication-defective adenoviral vector to express granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF). After modification, the cells are lethally irradiated to prevent proliferation and then reintroduced into the patient as a subcutaneous injection. The secreted GM-CSF acts as an immune adjuvant, recruiting and activating antigen-presenting cells at the vaccination site to enhance anti-tumor immune responses against residual or metastatic disease. This approach aims to induce coordinated immunity specifically targeting each patient's unique tumor antigens[2][4]. The primary indication is for patients with stage II-III or metastatic breast cancer[1][2].
