GM508 CultActive

GM508 CultActive is a bicarbonate-buffered, human serum albumin (HSA)-free reagent designed for artificial oocyte activation (AOA) during assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures, specifically intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Developed by Gynemed, its active component is the calcium ionophore A23187 (also known as calcimycin). The reagent works by inducing a transient increase in intracellular calcium concentration within the oocyte, mimicking the physiological calcium oscillations normally triggered by a fertilizing sperm. This process is intended to rescue fertilization failure in cases of male factor infertility, such as globozoospermia or severe oligoasthenoteratozoospermia, where the sperm may be deficient in oocyte-activating factors. While used clinically in IVF procedures, it is often classified as a medical device or laboratory reagent rather than a traditional pharmaceutical.
