GMC-252 is a small molecule agonist of the G protein-coupled receptor 119 (GPR119) developed by Genmedica Therapeutics for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes mellitus. GPR119 is primarily expressed in pancreatic beta cells and enteroendocrine cells of the gastrointestinal tract. Activation of this receptor stimulates the glucose-dependent secretion of insulin and incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), which collectively improve glycemic control. GMC-252 was investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials as an oral therapy, often formulated as an L-lysine salt to enhance its pharmacokinetic profile. Clinical development focused on assessing its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in both healthy volunteers and patients with Type 2 diabetes.
