Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GMI-2093 is an orally available, small molecule inhibitor of galectin-3, discovered and being developed by GlycoMimetics. Galectin-3 is implicated in the activation of profibrotic factors, promotion of fibroblast proliferation and transformation, and mediation of collagen production. It plays a key role in fibrogenesis across multiple organ systems (liver, kidney, lung, heart) and is also involved in tumor cell transformation, migration, invasion, and metastasis. GMI-2093 is being developed as a therapeutic strategy for tissue fibrosis and certain cancers. As of early 2024–2025 updates, it remains in preclinical development for both fibrosis and cancer[1][2][3][8].
