Overview

gMSC1 is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy developed by TWOCELLS Co., Ltd. for the treatment of focal knee cartilage defects, including those associated with traumatic injury, osteochondritis dissecans, or focal osteoarthritis. The product consists of donor-derived synovial mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) that are mass-produced using proprietary serum-free culture technology (STK1 and STK2 media). These cells are formulated into a scaffold-free, three-dimensional artificial tissue known as a Tissue-Engineered Construct (TEC). When surgically implanted into a knee cartilage defect, gMSC1 is intended to promote the regeneration of functional hyaline-like cartilage. The development of gMSC1 has been supported by various Japanese government agencies and is being conducted in partnership with Kaken Pharmaceutical, which holds joint development and exclusive marketing rights in Japan.
