Drug intelligence / Profile preview
GO102 is a novel, first-in-class anti-fibrotic small molecule being developed for the prevention and treatment of renal fibrosis, particularly in patients with Alport syndrome and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Developed by researchers at the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) under the RevOFib ("Reversal of Fibrosis") research project, GO102 acts by reversing fibrotic fibroblast activation and inhibiting the activation of both fibroblasts and tubular epithelial cells. In preclinical models of renal fibrosis, such as the unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model, GO102 treatment significantly reduced plasma blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and hydroxyproline levels, while also decreasing the expression of pro-inflammatory and pro-fibrotic markers like TNF-α and α-SMA. GO102 is currently in Phase 1 clinical development in healthy volunteers.
