Gold nanoparticles functionalized with D2B monoclonal antibody (AuNPs-D2B) is an experimental targeted drug delivery system designed for the treatment and imaging of prostate cancer. The system utilizes citrate-capped gold nanoparticles, approximately 25 nm in diameter, which are conjugated with D2B, a monoclonal antibody specific for the prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA). PSMA is a well-validated biomarker highly overexpressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells. The D2B antibody facilitates the selective binding of the nanoparticles to these cells, triggering internalization through receptor-mediated endocytosis. This mechanism allows for the concentrated delivery of therapeutic payloads or contrast agents directly into the tumor microenvironment while potentially minimizing systemic toxicity. Preclinical studies have demonstrated the bioconjugate's high binding affinity, dose-dependent binding, and specific uptake in PSMA-positive cell lines with minimal cytotoxicity.
