Golnaar mouthwash

Golnaar mouthwash is a traditional Iranian herbal formulation derived from the dried flowers of *Punica granatum var. pleniflora* (commonly known as 'Golnaar'). Developed by researchers at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, this preparation utilizes the male pomegranate plant, which produces flowers but no fruit. The mouthwash is prepared by mixing dried flower powder with vinegar and diluting it with distilled water. It has been primarily evaluated for its efficacy in treating gingivitis, particularly in patients with diabetes mellitus. The therapeutic effects are attributed to high concentrations of tannins and polyphenols, which provide potent antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Clinical trials, including a triple-blind randomized study (NCT02227485), have demonstrated that the formulation is safe and effective, showing comparable results to chlorhexidine without the associated side effect of tooth staining.
