This refers to the combination therapy of exogenous gonadotropins (such as follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH] and luteinizing hormone [LH]) with gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists. This regimen is primarily used in assisted reproductive technologies, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), to stimulate controlled ovarian hyperstimulation while preventing premature ovulation. Gonadotropins directly stimulate the ovaries to promote follicular development, while GnRH antagonists competitively bind to pituitary GnRH receptors, rapidly suppressing endogenous LH and FSH secretion and thus preventing a premature LH surge. The combination allows for precise control over ovulation timing and improves outcomes in fertility treatments[7][3]. In some protocols, this approach is also used for fertility preservation or other gynecological indications.
