Overview
Gonadotropins-IBSA is a urinary-derived biologic combination of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), developed by the Swiss pharmaceutical company IBSA Institut Biochimique SA. Extracted and purified from the urine of pregnant or post-menopausal women using patented processes, the drug acts as an agonist at both the follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) and the luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor (LHCGR). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of infertility and for controlled ovarian stimulation in women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART). Clinical evaluation has included Phase 1 pharmacokinetic studies to assess dose-proportionality following subcutaneous administration in pituitary down-regulated women.
