Overview
Gongshao capsule (also known as Xiongshao capsule or 芎芍胶囊) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It is derived from the classic TCM formula Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction and is composed of Szechwan Lovage Rhizome (Chuanxiong) and Red Paeony Root (Chishao) in a 2:1 ratio. Gongshao capsule is primarily used to promote blood circulation, resolve blood stasis, and alleviate pain. It is approved as an in-hospital preparation in China and has been clinically evaluated, both alone and in combination with other TCMs like Huanglian capsule, for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as unstable angina pectoris and coronary heart disease, as well as for preventing restenosis after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
