This combination regimen consists of goserelin, tamoxifen, and an aromatase inhibitor (specifically anastrozole, based on the 1mg dosage) and is being investigated by Peking University as a neoadjuvant endocrine therapy for premenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative breast cancer. Goserelin, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist, is administered subcutaneously to suppress ovarian function and induce a postmenopausal state. Tamoxifen, a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), is administered orally to block estrogen receptors in breast tissue. The aromatase inhibitor is subsequently added to inhibit the peripheral conversion of androgens to estrogens. This multi-pronged approach aims to maximize estrogen deprivation to shrink tumors prior to surgery, serving as an alternative to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in this patient population.
