Goserelin acetate + calcium + vitamin d is a therapeutic regimen used for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer while proactively managing the side effects of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT). Goserelin acetate is a synthetic decapeptide analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) that acts as a potent agonist; chronic administration leads to downregulation of pituitary GnRH receptors, suppressing the release of luteinizing hormone and reducing serum testosterone to castrate levels. Since ADT significantly increases the risk of bone mineral density loss and subsequent fractures, calcium and vitamin D are co-administered to support bone health and prevent osteoporosis. This specific combination was evaluated by the Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Trust in clinical trials to assess long-term changes in bone mineral density and fracture risk in prostate cancer patients.
