Goshajinkigan is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine consisting of a standardized extract of ten medicinal herbs: Rehmannia Root, Achyranthes Root, Cornus Fruit, Dioscorea Rhizome, Alisma Rhizome, Poria Sclerotium, Moutan Bark, Cinnamon Bark, Aconite Root, and Plantago Seed. It is primarily manufactured by Tsumura & Co. (as TJ-107) and is approved in Japan for the treatment of symptoms associated with peripheral neuropathy, particularly diabetic neuropathy, as well as lower back pain, numbness, and overactive bladder. The formula's mechanism of action involves the stimulation of nitric oxide production to improve peripheral blood flow and the activation of kappa-opioid receptors to provide analgesic relief. Recent clinical research, such as the ESKARGOT study led by Nara Medical University, has investigated its potential in treating chronic tinnitus in the elderly.
