Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Gouteng Xuanshen Granules (钩藤玄参颗粒) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation presented in granule form. It is primarily composed of two key herbal ingredients: *Uncaria rhynchophylla* (Gouteng) and *Scrophularia ningpoensis* (Xuanshen). *Uncaria rhynchophylla* is traditionally recognized for its ability to extinguish internal wind, alleviate spasms, clear liver heat, and pacify hyperactive liver yang. These actions contribute to its historical use in managing conditions such as hypertension, dizziness, headaches, and seizures. Its active components, including alkaloids like rhynchophylline and isorhynchophylline, have demonstrated neuroprotective, anticonvulsive, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects, as well as modulating neurotransmitter systems. *Scrophularia ningpoensis* is traditionally used in TCM to clear heat, nourish yin, and resolve toxicity. The combination of these herbs in Gouteng Xuanshen Granules is being investigated for its therapeutic potential, particularly in the treatment of hypertension, especially those cases associated with liver yang hyperactivity. Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is involved in its development for this indication.
