Overview

GOVX-B11 is a preventive and therapeutic HIV vaccine candidate developed by GeoVax Labs. The vaccine employs a prime-boost strategy consisting of two components: a recombinant DNA vaccine (pGA2/JS7 or GEO-D02) and a recombinant Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) vaccine (MVA/HIV62B). Both components are engineered to express HIV-1 Clade B antigens (Env, Gag, and Pol) that assemble into non-infectious virus-like particles (VLPs) within the recipient's cells. These VLPs mimic the structure of the natural virus, thereby eliciting both humoral (antibody) and cellular (T-cell) immune responses. GOVX-B11 has been evaluated in Phase 1 and Phase 2a clinical trials for the prevention of HIV infection and in Phase 1 trials as a therapeutic vaccine for individuals already infected with HIV and suppressed on antiretroviral therapy (ART).
