GP-57 is a preclinical-stage drug candidate series developed by GliaPharm as a follow-on to their lead program, GP-119. The series is designed to target metabolic pathways within astrocytes to address conditions associated with deficient brain energetics. By acting as a positive allosteric modulator (PAM) of a novel astrocyte target, GP-57 aims to increase the energy supply available to neurons. This approach is being explored for the treatment of various neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease and GLUT1 deficiency syndrome (GLUT1-DS), where impaired glucose transport or metabolism contributes to disease progression. The GP-57 series is part of GliaPharm's GliaX platform, which focuses on astrocyte-driven neuroprotection and metabolic support.
