Overview

GP11511 is a small molecule immunophilin ligand and a non-immunosuppressive analog of tacrolimus (FK506). It was developed to retain the hair growth-promoting (neurotrophic) properties of FK506 while eliminating its immunosuppressive activity, which is mediated through calcineurin inhibition. GP11511 specifically targets FK506-binding proteins (FKBPs). In research led by Dr. Maria K. Hordinsky, GP11511 was evaluated for its ability to promote the transition of hair follicles from the telogen (resting) phase to the anagen (active growth) phase. The compound was studied using a human hair follicle xenograft model in SCID mice to assess its potential as a treatment for alopecia.
