Overview

GP40321 is a rapid-acting insulin glulisine biosimilar being developed by the Russian pharmaceutical company Geropharm for the management of diabetes mellitus. As a biosimilar of the reference product Apidra, GP40321 acts as an agonist at the insulin receptor, stimulating glucose uptake into skeletal muscle and fat while inhibiting hepatic glucose production. The clinical development program for GP40321 has included randomized, double-blind, crossover hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp studies in healthy male volunteers to establish pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic bioequivalence to the reference insulin glulisine.
