GP531

GP531 is a first-in-class small molecule adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) agonist developed by ViCardia Therapeutics for the treatment of heart failure. As a second-generation adenosine regulating agent (ARA) and an analogue of acadesine, GP531 targets mitochondrial dysfunction to restore myocardial energy output and improve cardiac contractility. The drug acts by directly activating AMPK and indirectly augmenting endogenous adenosine levels, thereby reducing cardiac injury. It is primarily being developed as an intravenous infusion therapy for acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) and chronic heart failure (CHF), addressing the underlying pathology of mitochondrial dysfunction that leads to disease progression.
